California Sustainability Alliance

Founded in 2006, the California Sustainability Alliance (The Alliance) was designed to help meet the State of California’s aggressive energy, climate and resource and environmental goals by increasing and accelerating energy efficiency in combination with complementary green measures and strategies.

Navigant Consulting is the program Manager for The Alliance, working with program partners, stakeholder groups, policymakers, governmental agencies and market leaders to facilitate the acceleration of energy efficiency by combining it with complementary sustainability measures.

Programs being developed by The Alliance include:
» The Green Buildings
» Sustainable Communities
» Water Energy
» Green Local Government
» Green Affordable Housing

Recent projects released by The Alliance include:

The Green Leases Tool Kit
With approximately 90% of all office and retail space in the state of California being leased (only six percent of which is certified "green"), the Green Leases Tool Kit provides the opportunity for significant, currently untapped savings of energy, water and waste in the state of California.

"Green Leasing" is much more than the negotiation and drafting of lease language – it is the integration of energy and water efficiency, emissions reduction, waste minimization and other sustainability objectives throughout the entire commercial leasing process.

Study: The Role of Recycled Water in Energy Efficiency and Green House Gas Reduction
This study, published by The Alliance, estimates the potential energy and carbon benefits of accelerating and increasing the development and use of recycled water in the state of California.

According to the study, the long-term incremental water supply required to meet California’s needs is expected to come from seawater desalination projects. These projects, while providing drought-resistant, reliable supplies, are highly energy intensive.  The study concludes that using secondary and tertiary recycled water supplies could save enough energy to power 150,000 homes.
